Aberdeen-based life sciences company B1 Medical scooped the Most Promising New Life Sciences Company in Scotland at the SE Life Sciences Awards 2007 for its revolutionary orthopaedic inventions, set to aid sufferers of illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis. The company was founded in July 2006 with £1.3m investment from Sigma Capital Group PLC (AIM: SGM), the specialist asset management and advisory group, and Scottish Enterprise CIF. B1 Medical is a spin-out from the University of Aberdeen, the Robert Gordon University and NHS Grampian.

Sigma Capital Group PLC today announced a £1.3 million investment in B1 Medical Limited (“B1 Medical”). Sigma has been working closely with the three founding institutions: the University of Aberdeen, the Robert Gordon University, and NHS Grampian, represented by Scottish Health Innovations Ltd, (“the Institutions”) since the creation of B1 Medical which will focus on the commercialisation of technology in the field of medical devices for orthopaedics.
